We are proud to announce that our long time colleague and Tax Advisor Maarten Tervoort has been named Managing Director of our St. Maarten office.
Maarten has extensive experience with international structuring and in wage tax and formal tax matters. Maarten’s interest in international tax structures and foreign fiscal regimes resulted in his working for the Tax Department of Bonaire, Statia and Saba (BES) as tax inspector, prior to joining Baker Tilly St. Maarten.
In the almost three years spent working as a tax inspector, he educated colleague tax inspectors on all different forms of taxation on the BES, but especially in formal tax law and litigation. In 2014, Maarten joined Baker Tilly St. Maarten as head of the tax department and in February 2018 he was named managing director of the office
Maarten about his ambitions for the Baker Tilly Sint Maarten office and the island; Sint Maarten is an island full of opportunities. Still less well-known and hence less saturated than for instance Curaçao in many market-sectors, St. Maarten offers plenty of possibilities for upcoming new companies as well as for existing multinationals that are interested in doing business on St. Maarten. Especially in anticipation of a large financial contribution by the Netherlands to mitigate some of the damage done by hurricane Irma, the coming period will most likely be characterized by new business ventures being established on St. Maarten. As an office with years of experience on St. Maarten in the field of tax advice, compliance, accounting and business support, our team of 10 employees aims to contribute to the success of these new companies, as well as existing ones, by optimizing their financial back-office.
