Job description
We are seeking a Tax Compliance Officer to join our tax team. This position is for a tax professional with a strong background in tax compliance and salary (payroll) tax administration. As the Tax Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with Curaçao tax obligations, including corporate tax filings, payroll tax administration and interactions with the Tax Authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of annual provisional and final profit tax return processes to ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations and deadlines
- Prepare, review, and file both provisional and final profit tax returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to statutory requirements
- Prepare and submit formal filing extension requests as needed to avoid non-compliance and penalties
- Administer wage tax and social security filings, ensuring accurate salary tax reporting and timely remittance to the authorities
- Manage payroll-related tax compliance, collaborating with clients to ensure proper alignment between salary records and tax reporting
- Handle tax assessments by drafting objections and submitting formal requests to delay tax payments when needed
- Stay up to date with changes in Curaçao tax laws, regulations, and case law, incorporating relevant updates into compliance practices and advisory recommendations
- Maintain strong relationships with the tax authorities, tax collector’s office, and other relevant institutions to facilitate effective communication and issue resolution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Tax Law or a related field
- 4+ years of progressive experience in tax compliance, with a solid understanding of Curaçao’s tax framework, including profit tax, turnover tax and wage tax
- Proven experience in salary tax (payroll) administration, including filing and reconciliation of wage tax returns
- Strong understanding of Curaçao tax legislation and its practical application across all relevant tax types and compliance requirements
- Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly and confidently
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently, while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
